What a dystopian way to kick off 2025.
Brazilian authorities just used facial recognition to identify 30 men having sex on a beach in Rio de Janeiro on New Years Eve. The “Arpoador Orgy” went viral last week after someone posted a clip on social media. It looked more like a sloppy circle jerk to me, but major news outlets ran with it anyway.
Authorities also used nearby security cameras, and the men are being summoned for questioning. So far, no one has been arrested. There is now a debate raging about privacy, tourism, and sexual freedom in the country.
These kinds of moments are weaponized against us all. Queers everywhere need to reexamine how we share our sex shenanigans online in 2025. Our current political landscape is not very sympathetic to Queer sex and surveillance tech is booming across the globe. Historically, this is not a promising combo for Queer people.
So maybe keep the outdoor orgies with strangers off social media Mary (I’m looking at you Zipolite tourists).
Don’t let your thirst for clicks get in the way of our hunt for dicks!
