Synthetic Porn Genres #5: Fuzzy GILFS

In researching this series, I’ve seen a lot of synthetic erotica. Most of it is bland, some is surreal, some borders on illegal, but just when I thought I’d seen it all, granny muppet AI porn made me spit out my Dr. Pepper.

It’s not the existence of the genre; furry and Disney erotica have lived online forever. It was the absurd specificity. These images were all created by one guy for an obscure, tiny Reddit group dedicated entirely to puppet porn.

His creative journey was the real spectacle. I don’t produce any of this AI erotica; everything I show you is scraped from the surface of the internet. That distance lets me watch, in real time, strangers not only learn these tools but discover their own desires. In just a few months of rendering, this AI creator evolved from prompting silly, regular muppets to muppet girls in all sorts of porn scenarios, and eventually landed on a sprawling series of only older muppet cougars. Guess he found his niche.

I still get pushback for covering AI porn. People ask why anyone who doesn’t consume it should care. But the silly, odd sweetness of the Granny Muppet images caused them to go viral on my social media, with folks finally having conversations about this tech instead of going full “AI doom and gloom.” Some pondered how healing mommy issues factored into this genre, or exactly what Muppets have “down there” (scroll down to find out!). That levity, and all of those eyeballs, allowed me to crack open some larger themes and questions.

So why should you care about AI erotica, beyond the many dangers I’ve covered in other pieces? First, the general AI boom is starting to feel like the 2000 dot-com bubble and every day brings more signs it will pop. This will affect us all. But you know what industry survived the dot-com crash? Porn. It rose from the ashes to impact and spawn other industries. That is why AI companies like OpenAI and Twitter’s Grok are now aggressively pushing erotica, chatbots and sexy deepfakes. ChatGPT announced it will offer erotica and Grok’s AI has an NSFW companion mode. They know adult entertainment will always make money and could lead to unexpected innovations. And they’re right; early internet porn gave us online credit card payments and video streaming. It was also used as an excuse to gut our privacy. AI porn and chatbots may seem frivolous today but what new tools are they normalizing, and who will use erotica to erode more rights?

These are heavy questions, but there are answers about our desire too. AI porn is not limited by actors, shoots or budgets. It is not tied down to the laws of physics or morality and with such weak regulation, even the rule of law. Synthetic erotica is so unsettling and so powerful because it offers a funny, titillating, terrifying and completely unfiltered glimpse into the sex imagination and, whether we like it or not, into the future.
